Wheel Backspacing & Offset Calculator

Convert wheel backspacing in inches to offset in millimetres, or the other way around. Find the right measurements for your wheel setup.

Backspace to Offset Calculator

Enter wheel width and backspace (inches). Offset can be positive or negative.

Wheel and hub cross-section showing offset The wheel centreline stays fixed while the hub mounting position changes with offset. Backspacing is measured from the back of the wheel to its mounting surface. Centerline HUB — Backspacing — − Negative Offset Positive Offset + Back of wheel Face of wheel

Results are approximate. The calculation allows an additional 1 inch for the wheel's two rim flanges (approximately 0.5 inch each). Actual flange dimensions vary between wheels.

Understanding wheel measurements

What is wheel backspacing?

The distance from the wheel mounting surface to the outermost edge of the inner rim flange, measured in inches.

What is wheel offset?

The distance between the wheel mounting surface and the wheel centreline, measured in millimetres.

Why does wheel width matter?

Two wheels with the same backspacing but different widths will have different offsets.

Why does BDS specify backspacing?

It helps position the wheel relative to steering and suspension parts, but is only one part of confirming fitment.
